Percy Harvin Zone

The Wonderful World of Percy Harvin.

Chris Rainey was the Gator standout this spring. He impressed coaches with his speed and cutback ability. I truly enjoyed watching some of his highlights from the Orange and Blue game. We want all Gators to succeed, but how will Chris Rainey’s performance affect Percy Harvin?

If Rainey continues to perform, the coaches will get him more touches. Those touches have to come from somewhere. Last year, Tebow and Harvin were the main ball carriers so it only makes sense that they will lose some touches. I think Moore will probably lose the most, but no doubt Percy won’t get as many carries from the backfield.

The Gators need to get the ball in their best playmakers hands, so if Percy Harvin receives less carries I would expect his number of catches to go way up.

According to Urban Meyer, Percy Harvin could be back for summer conditioning. That’s great news! It was originally thought that Harvin would go through the entire summer without any workouts or practices. Lindsay Jones of the Palm Beach Post writes:

Meyer was in Ohio to spend time with family last week, but said he has spoken frequently with star WR Percy Harvin, who is recovering from surgery on his right heel. That surgery, which required the doctor to drill two holes in Harvin’s heel and remove some bone, will force Harvin into a months-long rehab program. Meyer remains hopefully Harvin will be able to participate in summer conditioning and will be 100 percent healthy by the time training camp opens in August. “It’s going to be a lengthy deal,” Meyer said. “He’s going to have to be real disciplined about it. The biggest concern is infection at this point, and doing something he’s not supposed to do. But we’re very positive.”

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more news comes out.

Scout.com released their list of the 2008 Heisman Trophy Contenders. Percy Harvin isn’t number 1 on that list, but fellow Gator Tim Tebow is! Was there ever any doubt?

When I first looked at this list I expected to see Percy in the top 10, but to my surprise he isn’t even in the top 25! He is listed on the watch list though, but so are about 20 other players. Scout.com needs to wake up and watch some Gator football film. Percy Harvin is the top playmaker in the country. No one has the ability to take it to the distance like Harvin does. It just makes me mad to see he’s not getting any love from the national media.

Percy is a legit Heisman Contender, he’s just getting overshadowed by Tebow. Without Percy, Tebow wouldn’t be half the quarterback he is. Harvin takes those 5 yard passes and turns them into 60 yard gainers. It’s all about the yards after catch with Percy.

O-well though, nothing we can do but sit back and wait till the games start. Then people will see what he brings to the table.

The Gators held their annual Spring Orange and Blue game on Saturday, this time it was televised on ESPN2 for the whole nation to see. There was only one thing missing from the game. Percy Harvin!

I really would have liked to see Percy in action, but I guess it’s more important for him to full recover from his injury. Don’t expect to see Percy in any summer practices or drills. He’ll being practicing in August I hope and be ready for the opening game in September.

Everything that we’ve been reading says that Percy Harvin has had this heel injury for a year or more. It maybe wasn’t in as much pain, but it definitely bothered him. So that means since Percy has been on the Gators, he’s never been 100%. What if this surgery makes him 100%? It means he’ll be even better then before!

Tony Barnhart of the AJC brought this exact same topic up as his number 1 question of the week. Here’s what he had to say:

1. Could Percy Harvin actually get better? The Florida wide receiver had surgery on Monday to correct a chronic heel problem. Does that mean that in his first two seasons he’s been running with a sore heel? Does that mean he could actually get BETTER after he recovers from the surgery? That’s going to keep some defensive coordinators up at night. Somebody wrote on the blog the other day that Harvin was an overrated player who could do only one thing: run fast. You have got to be kidding me. That’s not what the defensive coordinators in this league think. He scares them to death.

Florida wide receiver and master of the open space Percy Harvin had heel surgery Monday and is expected to be ready for fall practice. Great news to all Gator fans. A complication would have been devestating! The surgery was performed by foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson at the Orthocarolina Orthopedic Clinic in Charlotte, N.C.

The Gators hope the surgery will relieve years of pain in Harvin’s right heel, which has bothered him off and on since his high school days in Virginia. I can’t believe that Percy is just now having the surgery if he’s been in pain for so long. If the surgery is simple why did he not do it in the past? Anyways, good luck and get well Percy!

It’s official. Percy Harvin will undergo surgery on his heel this week.

“It’s not a career-threatening injury,” Florida head coach Urban Meyer said Friday. “It’s a very minor surgery, probably an eight-week recovery and then he’ll be full speed for offseason. They’re saying in June we should be able to get him cranked up, for sure July.”

Renowned foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the surgery, so it looks like Harvin’s in good hands. Harvin hopes that the decision to go through with this will put an end to years of heel pain.

Things are not looking good for Percy Harvin. A report in the Florida Times Union is saying that Percy Harvin might require surgery to help fix his injured heel. Thankfully, Meyer isn’t predicting the surgery to affect Percy’s ability to get on the field for opening day. Here’s what the article had to say:

Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin’s right heel injury might require surgery, and while physicians are still trying to determine the proper treatment, Gators coach Urban Meyer said it doesn’t appear the ailment will affect the player’s status for the 2008 season. Meyer said Monday that physicians, including a foot specialist in North Carolina, who have treated Harvin should have a plan within the next several days.

“It’s unique,” Meyer said of Harvin’s heel problem. “Not many guys have ever had this. The MRI showed that it’s a significant injury, and they [the physicians] want to make sure they do it right.”

Meyer said he didn’t know the exact term for Harvin’s injury but that it’s a bone issue. It’s something that Harvin, who will be a junior in the fall, first noticed in high school, and it really began to bother him last summer, Meyer said.

This is such a bummer. We really had high hopes for Percy and it would suck if he faces setbacks or anything like that and the season hasn’t even started yet.

Bad news is coming out of the Swamp. Our favorite Gator, Percy Harvin, tweaked his heel and is done for the spring.

“It’s obviously not going to affect the fall,” coach Urban Meyer said. “It might affect the rest of the spring. They’re going to get a second opinion.”

Percy Harvin has definitely been frustrated by weird injuries over his career as a gator. He just can’t seem to get right. “He loses his mind sometimes when he gets hurt because he’s so competitive,” Meyer said. “He just wants to be right. He’s had this for over a year and a half. “

All we can do as fans is hope that Percy is OK and will be ready for the home opener. It’s funny how yesterday we were talking about how Percy was burning all the DBs in practice, and now he’s on the sideline.

This also means he won’t be participating in the 40-yard dash against a student during the Orange and Blue game.

We’ll keep you updated as the spring and summer goes on.

Percy Harvin had another great practice on Friday and over the weekend. Here’s what Gator Country had to say about it:

This group is so talented I think I could coach them to be All-Americans. Percy again made the difficult look easy almost all day today. He faked a couple of the best corners out of their underwear in seven on seven and one on one drills.

Percy also burned Freshman cornerback Janoris Jenkins for a touchdown.

The Gators put the pads on for the first time on Saturday. Percy looked as natural as he always does. I know he’s primed for a huge season in 2008. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll be going pro after this year, so he’ll put everything he has into it. Hopefully Heisman type numbers.
