When Will Percy Go Pro?

It’s my fear that if Percy Harvin and Gators have an outstanding 2008, that Harvin may bail out on his senior season and go to the NFL. And by all means, I wouldn’t blame him. If you’re slated to be a top draft pick (which he will be), how can you pass up millions of dollars in guaranteed money? You simply can’t do it.

So do you think Percy will go pro after the 2008 season? My personal observations tell me that he will leave if given the opportunity. He wouldn’t have anything to gain by coming back for a 4th year, like Andre Caldwell did. Caldwell was overshadowed in the National Championship game and really needed to come back for another year so he could be the spotlight receiver.

Well, next year, Harvin will be the go to guy. He will be the one everyone is watching. I hope it doesn’t happen, but I think he will leave early. What do you say?

Harvin’s Year End Stats

Well the Florida Gators regular season is over. They’ll likely play a bowl game (probably the Capital One Bowl in Orlando), but as far as stats go, they have been calculated and finalized.

Harvin only played 10 games out of 12 this year, so his stats could have been better. But all in all, he had a damn good year. Percy total 781 receiving yards on 50 receptions, giving him an average of 15.6 yards per catch. His long was 52 yards and he had 3 receiving touchdowns. The Gators are thankful that Harvin is not strictly a wide receiver, but he is also a duel threat runningback. Percy rushed the ball 70 times for 599 yards, giving him an average of 8.6 yards per carry (WOW!). His long was 38 yards and he had 5 rushing touchdowns.

Percy Harvin had an amazing sophomore season. His numbers will only improve from here in 2008. For 2008, I would project something around 1000 receiving yards and 600 rushing yards, with 10 total touchdowns.

Harvin is Florida’s Best Player

Mike Hugueinin of Rivals.com thinks that Harvin is Florida’s best player. Here’s what he had to say:

Percy Harvin is Florida’s best player. We’re fully aware Tim Tebow could win the Heisman (and if you still doubt Tebow’s talent, we doubt you actually have watched a Florida game). Still, Harvin is a special case and showed it Saturday against Florida State. The FSU defense was helpless against him whether he was running between the tackles, taking it outside on a sweep or running pass patterns. Harvin has unreal speed and doesn’t seem to slow down when he makes his cuts. He’s also as slithery as all get out.

What do you think? The Gators offense seems so much better when Percy is on the field. He is truly electrifying. Could next year’s Heisman trophy go to Percy Harvin? Will Percy be a higher NFL draft pick then Tebow?

Harvin Back in a Big Way

Saturday against their arch rival Florida State, Percy Harvin and the Gators gave out a beat down. Harvin had 21 touches in his first game in 3 weeks. “It was real tough on me,” he said. “I don’t miss games. I hate to miss games. I was happy to be back.”

Percy ended the game with 5 receptions for 67 yards and 16 carries for 157 yards and a touchdown. Percy was once again the go-to guy and he made things happen when given the ball. “The offensive line was opening up big, gaping holes,” Harvin said. “The receivers blocked downfield for me, like they always do.”

The Gators regular season is over now. They’ll have a bowl game on New Year’s Day, probably the Capital One Bowl against Illinois. Until then, I’ll try to keep you posted on what Percy is up to, and how he is practicing for the bowl game.

FSU vs. Percy Harvin and the Florida Gators

The Florida State Seminoles are headed to the Swamp for one of the NCAA’s finest rivalry games. The Gators will look to hold their turf and go for the 3rd straight win over FSU.

Our favorite Gator, Percy Harvin, is finally back in the lineup and is out to make up for lost stats. He’s feasting for revenge and the victim is FSU.

There were rumors going around that Harvin wasn’t really sick, and that he was in Meyer’s dog house for something. I don’t believe it though. I think Percy was sick, and is now finally healthy and ready to play.

I’m predicting big things for Harvin tonight against FSU. Something around 150 totals yards and two scores. He’ll show the fans how much we need him and what he means to this team. He’s a crucial part of the Gator running game and passing game. He makes things happen. I can’t wait to see him finally play again.

Percy Harvin Finally Practices

It seems like all we’ve been talking about the last week and a half is how Percy kept missing practice and games. Well, finally we can report that Harvin in back at practice and ready to kick some FSU ass.

“It wouldn’t go away,” Harvin said Monday following his practice in two weeks. “I couldn’t see. I was dizzy. I couldn’t walk… It was the worst I had. It was the worst I ever felt. I was just nauseous and throwing up. It feels good to be back out here.”

Gator fans and players have missed Harvin. He is one of the leaders on this team and one of the most exciting players to ever put on a Gator uniform.

“I’m just happy to be out here,” Harvin said.  And so are we!

Tomorrow I’ll break down how Harvin’s running and receiving abilities will effect FSU.

Percy Harvin Should Be Back For FSU

Great news for Gators Fans! Percy Harvin should be back for the regular season ending game against FSU.

“They’ve done all kind of tests on him, and they were trying different medicines and they finally found the one that knocked the migraine out,” Meyer said. “I think they tried three or four different IV medicines, and they found the one that kind of made it at least bearable.”

Doctors did all kinds of crazy tests on Harvin. CT Scans, MRIs… you name it. But finally something started to work. “He says he’s feeling a lot better,” Meyer said. “I’m hoping he’s ready to go.”

The Gators have been crushing opponents just fine without Harvin in the lineup. But despite FSU’s down year, they are still no Vandy or Florida Atlantic. Florida State will player the Gators tough and we’ll need Harvin in the lineup

Can Percy Harvin Be a 2000 Yard Player?

Percy Harvin is officially out for the FAU game, but we all kind of saw that coming anyways.

This morning I started looking at Percy’s stats to see what kind of year he was having statistically before he missed games. Currently Harvin is at 714 rec. yards and 442 rushing yards. We don’t know yet if he’ll play next week against FSU, but had Percy played the last 3 games of this season, he could have very well put up 1000 receiving yards and probably 600 rushing yards. That’s 1600 total yards.

In 2005, Reggie Bush had 2,218 total rushing and receiving yards. It got me thinking, does Percy have that ability?

It’s much easier for a pure running back to reach 2000 total yards then it is for a wide receiver. Running backs simply get the ball more. Bush carried the ball 200 times in 2005, whereas, Percy only has 54 rushed to date.

It doesn’t seem likely that Percy can reach that milestone, but it is still possible. Tebow will need to get him the ball more in 2008. Harvin will need to average about 120 yards receiving a game and 50 yards rushing per game. With Caldwell leaving after this season, it really opens up the field for Harvin to get involved. Percy can make things happen. The 120 yards per game shouldn’t be a problem.  It’s the rushing yards I’d be worried about. The Gators have a hot new crop of running backs coming in next year, and likely won’t call on Percy to take many balls out of the backfield.

It will be fun watching Harvin next season as he tries to set Gator records. I hope he does reach 2000 total yards. It would be an amazing feat to see.

Harvin Likely Out for FAU

The Associated Press is reporting that the “Gators probably won’t risk playing him Saturday against Florida Atlantic.”

I feel bad for Percy Harvin. Injuries are part of football, but being sidelined because of a sickness just doesn’t seem right. I think it’s in the Gators best interest to keep Harvin out of the lineup this week, even if he feels better by Friday. There is no point in risking his health and delaying this any longer.

The Gators will need a healthy Percy when they play FSU, and should they make it to the SEC Championship game.  Meyer visited Percy in the student health care center and said  “He was not in good shape when I saw him.”

Harvin Sent to the Hospital

Yesterday I reported that Harvin was back at practice, and he was…just only for a short time. After morning practice, Coach Meyer still didn’t like what he saw in Harvin. Something wasn’t right. After Harvin practiced all morning, his symptoms flared up again.

“He came in and had the same symptoms, so they took him to the doctor,” Meyer said. “I’m not sure if it’s migraine, sinus infection, something else — that’s what they’re trying to find out right now.”

I hope it’s not mono!

I’ve had a sinus infection before, and it lasted about 2 weeks. Not only does your nose get backed up, but your face hurts from the pressure and that can lead to neck pain. It’s not fun. Athletes generally recover quicker from illnesses due to all the advanced drugs they can get. Hopefully someone can give Percy something to get him back on the field this weekend.

He has played or practiced in over a week. It’s got to be killing him. The Gators surely can win without him on Saturday, but it’s just not the same team unless Harvin is in the game.

Get Well Soon!
