Percy Harvin Zone

The Wonderful World of Percy Harvin.

College Football News recently published their ranking of the top 32 prospects for the 2009 NFL Draft. They ranked Percy Harvin as the second best wide receiver prospect and #19 overall. Here’s a quick excerpt of what they had to say:

19. Percy Harvin, WR Florida (Jr.)
He might not be a pure wide receiver at an NFL level, but he’s an elite playmaker no matter how he gets the ball in his hands. No, he’s not going to be a No. 1 target for anyone, but he’ll be a fun toy for some creative offensive coordinator to play with.

I would have ranked Harvin higher then 19 overall. If he has a season like everyone is expecting, he could very well be a top 10 pick in the Draft. He has Reggie Bush like skills… meaning he’s very fast, has amazing hands, and is versatile. Teams will love the fact that they can use Harvin in several different positions and situations.

It will be interesting to see if Harvin comes out after his junior year. I guess it all comes down to what kind of season he has. Should he get hurt or have a down year, I really think he’ll be back fo his senior year, making him ready for the 2010 Draft.

University of Florida running back coach Stan Drayton left the Gators to coach for their rival the Tennessee Volunteers. Normally, you couldn’t think a running back coach leaving would have an effect on a wide receiver, but in the spread offense we all know Harvin gets plenty of carries out of the back field. So do you think Drayton’s departure will help or hurt Percy Harvin?

I think it will actually help him. Drayton really has done nothing when it comes to developing running backs. I’m sure Percy spent a lot of time with him at practice going over effective ways to run through the line and possibly pick up blocks.

But from a pure running back standpoint, the Gators have been lacking there for years. Graham was a solid runner, but since him they have been very thin at that position. I hope bringing in a new running back coach helps the Gators build a better running game. This will help Harvin when he is lining up as a receiver and when he’s back as a runner.

Things are kind of slow right now in the world of Percy Harvin. The season is over and spring practice won’t start for a few months. I’m sure Percy is enjoying his time off from football. But in order to keep this site alive, I need to consistently post things, even when there is no new news. So today I just wanted to post a video of Percy scoring a touchdown in the Capital One Bowl game. Hope you enjoy it!

How frustrated is Percy Harvin after yesterday’s 41-35 Gator loss to the Michigan Wolverines? You can’t ask a single player to do more then Percy did. He ended the game with 13 carries for 165 yards, 9 receptions for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Yesterday in my in-game blog post, I said Harvin could end up with 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards. I was darn close in the prediction. In fact, Percy outdid my prediction by putting up 242 total yards of offense. That’s simply outstanding.

I know Percy was frustrated, but he didn’t show it. His first words in the locker room after the game were. “I wish we had won it for the seniors, and I want to tell them I’m sorry,” he said. “It’s not right for them to go out like this. You work so hard your whole career, then you end it with a loss. We wanted to send them out the right way, and I feel bad we didn’t get it done.”

Percy played a great game and is an outstanding Gator. He had one of the best all-around seasons I’ve ever seen from a sophomore Gator. You know he gave it his all yesterday. He was absolutely winded in the fourth quarter, but still went out there to ball.

I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table next season.

The second quarter just started in the Capital One Bowl game of Florida vs. Michigan. Percy Harvin already scored one touchdown… a 10 yard pass from Tebow. The Gators started out a little slow in the game and have been hit by some stupid penalties, but now that the second quarter is underway the Gators have found their rythm and are rolling.

The Gators are favored to win byabout two touchdowns. The score is currently 14-7 in the Gators favor. Percy Harvin has been a big factor in the Gator offense so far accounting for 20 rushing yards and 28 receiving yards. If he continues that pace throughout the game he could end up near 100-100 and a couple of scores.
