The Florida Gators were without star wr/rb Percy Harvin yesterday against Hawaii, but that didn’t stop them from running up 56 points against an average Hawaii team. Percy is still nursing that lingering heel injury, and there’s no concrete word yet as to when he’ll see game action.
Percy was missed in the passing game, evidenced by Tim Tebow only throwing for 137 yards. However, it looks like the Gators might not need to use Percy as much in the backfield in 2008. Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, and Brandon James all played lights out in the running back position.
Percy fans shouldn’t worry just yet. He is still their best player and offensive weapon. When Percy is on the field, defenses have to respect him, that’s not necessarily the case when these other young RBs are playing. Percy shouldn’t lose his job just because of an injury. Once he gets back on the field, he’ll be the go to man.
