Percy Harvin at the NFL Combine

The NFL Combine wraps up tomorrow. Former Florida Gator Percy Harvin was there, hoping to improve his draft stock. A lot of mocks I’ve seen him him going late in the first round.

Harvin came in measured at 5-feet-11¾ and 194 pounds. On Sunday, he ran the 40 in 4.41 seconds, the sixth fastest time among 45 receivers at the combine (some clocks had him at 4.37 and 4.32). Harvin also bench-pressed 225 pounds 19 times, the fifth most among receivers.

Those are impressive numbers considering he’s still not 100% from his ankle innjury back in December.

“That’s why I’m going to take a little more time to run the routes at my pro day,” Harvin said. “(The ankle) swelled up a lot (after the championship game). The break hasn’t healed all the way so I can’t cut, but I can definitely run straight ahead.”

So where does Percy stand in the draft? If he entered as a running back, he would have posted the fastest time. There’s no question he can do multiple things on the field.

“A lot of teams want to know my durability and whether I can be a pure receiver,” Harvin said this week during the NFL Scouting Combine, which continues through Tuesday at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

“I’ll answer a lot of those questions on my pro day.”

The Gator Pro Day will be held on March 18, 2009.

Percy Harvin Signing Day Flashback

Today is National Signing Day for high school athletes across the country. It seems like just yesterday that Gator fans were on their knees praying that a superstar WR from Virginia Beach would commit to the University of Florida.

Rivals.com had Percy Harvin listed as a 5-star athlete and ranked No. 1 for his position. Landing Percy in addition to Tim Tebow gave the Florida Gators the best recruiting class in the country for 2006. Take a look at some of the other WRs that Harvin ranked above for his class. Jeremy Maclin and Michael Crabtree (he’s on the athletes list) are the only two WRs that can compare to what Percy has done.

Looking back after 3 years on the field, I think Rivals would be happy with their No. 1 ranking for Percy. He turned out to be the most dynamic player in college football and helped bring two national championships to Gainesville.

Percy Harvin Signs With Agent

Percy Harvin recently signed with NFL Agent Joel Segal. Segal represents fellow Gators Alex Brown, Channing Crowder, Ceatrick Fason, Gerrard Warren and Ben Troupe.

The following is from Jeremy Fowler’s Swamp Things blog in the Orlando Sentinel.

“Former Gators wide receiver Percy Harvin looks to Joel Segal to negotiate his first NFL contract, according to the NFL Players Association records.

Harvin, projected by many as a first-rounder in April’s draft, will become the sixth Gator on Segal’s Blue Equity Sports roster. Segal is considered one of the NFL’s most aggressive agents along side Drew Rosenhaus.

Perhaps Segal can do for Harvin what he did with Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson, the former East Carolina star who jumped to the 24th pick in last year’s draft thanks to his athletic prowess. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Johnson rushed for 1,228 yards this season for the Titans.

Harvin, who declared after his junior season, is of a similar build and playmaking ability.”
