From the reports I’ve read over the past two days about Percy Harvin’s Pro Day workout say that he absolutely killed it. He ran extremely crisp routes, caught every ball thrown his way, and his measurables were off the charts.
“All he did was confirm what you already know, which is he’s an explosive athlete and once the ball’s in his hands he’s got a chance to score from anywhere on the field,” Jacksonville Jaguars receivers coach Todd Monken said.
Harvin covered 10 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump, leapt 37 inches in the vertical jump and benched 225 pounds 22 times. He hurried through some shuttle runs and looked as fluid as ever in on-the-field drills.
“Anybody who has a history of being injured, there’s a concern,” Monken said. “It doesn’t matter who it is, if there’s a history of injury, a history of not practicing, a history of off-the-field issues, a history of instability — whatever that may be — there’s a concern there because you’ve got to have a guy go and produce when you take him as high as he’s capable of going in the draft.”
I’m not sure if his Pro Day workout solidified him as the No. 2 ranked WR in the draft behind Michael Crabtree or not. He’s certainly been doing everything right this off-season.
Can’t wait till the draft to see where he ends up.

The University of Florida will host their annual Pro Day tomorrow. Percy Harvin will be participating in the drills. For some athletes, Pro Day is as important as the combine. Players are more in their comfort zone and can perform better. You also are not being watched by 500 people, including ESPN cameras. Only the scouts interested in what you have to offer will come visit for the Pro Day.
I’ll be sure to post Percy’s specifics tomorrow at the conclusion of the day. Check back!

The University of Florida Pro Day is next Wednesday. Percy Harvin will participate and there will be dozens of NFL Scouts on hand to watch him. Whether Percy Harvin is drafted in the Top 10 or closer to the 25-30 range may depend on his performance.
The USA Today had a good write up on Percy. Check it out:
Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin hopes to hear his name called in the first round of the April 25-26 NFL draft. If it is, he owes thanks.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is close with Florida coach Urban Meyer and has studied Meyer’s spread-option offense firsthand.
Belichick gave some coaching pointers to Harvin, who scored 17 touchdowns on 110 touches last season.
“He’s been an inspiration to me,” Harvin says of Belichick. “I’ve talked to him several times. … He’s talked to me and told me what I need to work on. I think the world of him.”
NFL evaluators are impressed with Harvin, who ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the scouting combine.
“He makes defensive coordinators anxious,” Buffalo Bills vice president of college scouting Tom Modrak says. “He’s a big-play possibility every time he touches the ball.”
Whom does Harvin compare his skill set with? “Reggie Bush has popped up, but a lot of people compare me to Steve Smith,” Harvin says of the Carolina Panthers wideout.

The folks over at Associated Content (might be some AP type of site) wrote a great Percy Harvin Draft Preview. As free agency is starting to die down, we can get a better look at what teams will be looking for a WR in the first round. Percy could potentially be taken as high as No. 7 overall with the Oakland Raiders. Many experts pegged Michael Crabtree as the No. 1 WR in the draft, but his stock has been dropping like a rock the past two weeks. Don’t be surprised if Percy is the first WR taken.
I’m going to post a quick excerpt from the preview, but you really should go check out the whole thing here.
Percy went to the University of Florida where he played both receiver and running back. He was such a dynamic threat that he caused opposing teams to prepare strategies specifically for stopping him – let alone Florida’s other weapons (i.e. Tim Tebow). He was part of two national championship teams, being a major factor in the second one. Despite battling injuries throughout his career, including what was later determined to be a hairline fracture, he was a strong player never afraid to take the hit. In the 2008-09 National Championship game, playing with that hairline fracture, he carried the ball 9 times for 122 yards rushing along with a touchdown. He also had 5 catches for 49 yards leading the Gators to their second National Championship.

There hasn’t been talk of Percy Harvin going in the Top 10 of the NFL Draft since last year when he was a rising junior. Percy’s injuries have bumped him down a couple slots in the minds of most NFL scouts. However,
Raiders beat reporter Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee says he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Oakland used its first-round pick on Percy Harvin.
While 7th overall would seem high for Harvin, his speed undoubtedly will appeal to owner Al Davis. If the Raiders get their offensive tackle situation ironed out in free agency, wideout could be their top priority in the draft.
If Crabtree is off the board by the time the Raiders pick they’ll be more inclined to go WR. The only other option that high would be Jeremy Maclin, and he has injury concerns as well (he got wrecked up at the combine on a deep route).
Percy has all the tools to succeed at the NFL level. A lot of people are comparing him to Steve Smith and Wes Welker. Every team in the league would be happy grabbing a player like that with their first pick.
