After seeing what Percy Harvin could do last week against the Cleveland Browns, Vikings fans have to be thrilled to see what he’ll do against the Detroit Lions. The Lions are the absolute worst team to ever exist. Teams can run and throw all over them. This is a dream matchup for Percy Harvin… if you have him in your fantasy league then he better be in the starting lineup on Sunday.
The only thing that could limit Percy’s touches is if the Vikings get up like 28-0 at halftime and they never throw the ball again. But this just means they’ll use Percy in the running game on reverses or try some wildcat options. Percy will get his 10-15 touches no matter what the situation. I also really like Percy’s chances of finding the endzone this week. We saw what Drew Brees did to the Lions last week – 6 passing touchdowns. Don’t be surprised if Harvin scores twice this weekend.
This really could be Percy’s breakout game. A big performance could catapolt him into the ROY race.

Week 1 of the 2009 NFL season kicks off tomorrow. The Minnesota Vikings will play their first game on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are a middle of the road to below-average defense. They gave up about 22 points per game last year and have since added 4 new starters on defense. Shaun Rogers hasn’t played all preseason and could be limited in the opener. This opens up lanes for the Vikings offense to run right through the Browns.
I believe Percy Harvin will bail out Brett Favre on multiple occassions in week 1. Berrian will still be the deep threat, but Harvin will be used in shifty plays and underneath routes. Getting Percy the ball in open field should be Favre’s main goal. I see the Vikings giving Percy 3 carries out of the backfield and targeting him at least 5 times as a wide receiver. With Harvin’s speed he has the potential to turn any one of those into a big gain.
I’d start Percy as a WR3 at best this week. If the Vikings get up early, they could abandon the pass which will hurt Percy’s chances to put up big numbers.
