Percy Harvin Watches Gators Win the SEC

Percy Harvin must have felt relieved when the Florida Gators knocked off the previously No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on their was to winning the 2008 SEC Championship. How devastated would he have felt if the Gators lost the game. He would have felt like it was his fault, because he couldn’t be out there on the field to help his teammates.

Luckily it didn’t matter. The Gators finished the Tide off with a final score of 31-20. In fact, had Harvin played… the score could have been in the 40s.

This is just a funny side note. Did anyone else notice the size of Percy Harvin’s stud earrings he had in during the game. Everytime the panned to him on the sideline I was blinded by the bling!

The Gators now have a month before the National Championship game against Oklahoma. That’s plenty of time for Percy to get healthy.

Even though Percy Harvin was on the sideline, the Florida Gators were able to pull out a 31-20 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. You could tell that Percy wanted to get in the game so bad, but it was nice to see him smiling on the sideline. Tebow came over to pump him up and probably gave him some words of encouragement. The Florida Gators are SEC Champions! Alabama played the close, but Florida was able to run away with the game in the 4th quarter. Tim Tebow led the Gators to a final score of 31-20. I was hoping we would get an answer about Percy Harvin today on whether or not he’ll play, but it still looks like he’ll be a game-time decision. The SEC Championship game against Alabama is a HUGE game. The winner will likely advance to the BCS National Championship game and the entire nation will be watching. The Gators need to impress the voters.

Not much news about Percy since he hasn’t been practicing, but here’s the latest update I could find from the Florida-Times Union:

Meyer said he hopes to have junior wide receiver Percy Harvin at practice today in the hopes of Harvin playing Saturday in the Southeastern Conference championship game against No. 1 Alabama.

Harvin has not practiced all week as he nurses a sprained right ankle. Meyer said he believes the Gators’ leading receiver is still wearing a protective boot, but has been doing exercises in a pool to help speed the recovery process.

“I won’t put a stopwatch on him or anything,” Meyer said. “If he can play, he’ll play.”

Harvin leads UF with 35 receptions for 595 yards and seven touchdowns. He also is second on the team in rushing, with 538 yards and nine touchdowns.

My guess is still that he suits up and heads on the field for a few plays, likely as a distraction. If the Gators can get up to an early 14-3 lead… you may not see him at all. However, if the Gators are losing… he may feel pressured to step in there and play. Luckily the medical staff can shoot him up with liquids so he won’t feel much pain if he does play, he just needs to avoid injuring it further.

Florida’s best playmaker, Percy Harvin, is questionable for Saturday’s SEC Championship game in Atlanta. We can thank the Seminoles and their HORRIBLE field for that. I’ve never seen a field in such bad condition as I did on Saturday. Players were going down left and right.

Harvin only managed 6 touches for 13 yards before going down. He did score a touchdown though to keep his streak alive. Florida head coach Urban Meyer said that Harvin would have a couple of days to recover before he practiced. How Harvin performs during practice later this week will determine his status Saturday.

“He is questionable for this game,” Meyer said. “He is day-to-day and he certainly won’t practice for the next couple of days. He is here today and moving around a little bit, so we will see what happens.”

Even if Harvin can’t play or isn’t full speed, it doesn’t mean Alabama can ignore him or any of the other great Gator players.

“They have a lot of good players, we certainly respect his ability, but they really have three players that, you know, 1, 2, 3, it’s easy to remember that. All three are outstanding players have had big play-ability,” Alabama head football coach Nick Saban said. “They’ve got some outstanding receivers. They’ve got a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback. And they utilize all those players in different roles. Certainly, we respect Percy Harvin as a great player, but they have other great players, too.”

I have a feeling this might be a lot like the Miami game earlier in the year. Percy played, but he was more or less used as a decoy on the field.

Seminoles Fear Percy Harvin

The Gators are only 3 hours away from their final regular season game of the 2008 season… and most likely the last time Percy Harvin will play against the rival Seminoles. Last year, Florida junior Percy Harvin rushed for 157 yards on 16 carries and caught five passes for 67 yards in the Gators’ 45-12 win against Florida State in Gainesville. This year they travel to Doak Campbell, normally a tough place to play…however, I’ve heard that they can’t even sell this game out.

Percy Harvin will be featured in the Gators offense this afternoon. They’re going to try and get him the ball 15-20 times. Percy will play some out of the backfield and in the slot. “He is one of the top two or three players in the nation,” Gators coach Urban Meyer said. “There are things that I’ve seen him do that I’ve never seen anyone else do.”

I’ve got a great feeling about Percy in this game. He always shines in the big games. I think Harvin will take 2 balls the distance for touchdowns… I’m talking two plays of 50+ yards each. The Gators are favored by about 17 points… I think they cover that with ease.

Citadel Can’t Stop Percy Harvin

In limited play versus the Citadel, Percy Harvin was able to rack up 49 yards rushing from 3 attempts and 76 yards receiving on 2 receptions, plus a touchdown. The Gators final score was 70-19 over the Citadel, but because the game was a blowout by the beginning of the 1st quarter, the Gators had no need to keep Percy Harvin in the game.

I wasn’t at the game, but wide receiver Percy Harvin stuck around The Swamp to sign autographs and interact with the fans after the 70-19 win over The Citadel. According to Miami Herald writer Mike McCall, Harvin seemed to be savoring the moment as if it was his last home game for the Gator. Harvin is an electric athlete and is sure to be a first round pick if he leaves early for the NFL.

Percy extended his touchdown streak and has now score 15 touchdowns this season. The Gators are still ranked 4th in the BCS Standings and still in prime position for the #1 or #2 spot if they can beat FSU and Alabama.

Percy Harvin Explodes Against South Carolina

Posted by Harvin Zone | Posted in Game Time, Gator News | Posted on 16-11-2008

We finally saw some explosion from Percy Harvin in Saturday’s Gator 56-6 victory over the Gamecocks. It wasn’t on the receiving side of the ball, but rushing yards count just as much!

Percy ended the game with 8 carries for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus 1 reception for 6 yards. One of the Percy Harvinrushing touchdowns came on an 80 yard rush. He hit the hole, bounce of a defender then squeezed his way through a few more and it was off to the races. No one on the South Carolina defense could catch him.

Even the Old Ball Coach had good things to say about Percy in the post game interview. “If he was a tailback on somebody else’s team, he’d be a 200-yards-a-game guy,” Spurrier said. You know, he’s probably right!

Percy’s receiving stats were pretty much non existent because the Gators didn’t need to throw the ball. The got up to a big 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter and just set everything on cruise control. The Gator offense is clicking like I’ve never seen before. I’m not sure anyone can stop them.

I’ll be sure to post the highlights from the game later this week.

Percy is Too Fast for the Gamecocks

The Old Ball Coach (aka Steve Spurrier) and the South Carolina Gamecocks are headed to the Swamp tomorrow for a afternoon SEC showdown against Percy Harvin and the Florida Gators. The Gamecocks have nothing to lose and the Gators have everything to lose. Some might say that’s a good thing for South Carolina, I say it doesn’t really matter.

South Carolina is supposed to have one of the best defenses in the SEC. But Percy Harvin will still shred them to pieces. He’s score a touchdown in every game he has played in 2008, and will keep that streak alive tomorrow. I’ve talked about Percy’s numbers being down this year, but I still think he can crack the 100 yards of total offense against this defense. USC isn’t all their cracked up to be. They don’t have enough speed on defense to go man vs man with Percy Harvin.

I have a good feeling that we’re going to see a big-time play from Percy this weekend. I haven’t seen a 60-70 yard touchdown from him in a couple of games. He’s due!

My score prediction for the game: 49-14. Harvin’s stats: 8 receptions for 145 yards and 1 touchdown, plus 70 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.

Remember, if you can’t make it to Gainesville for the 3:30 kickoff, head over to Gator Envy where you can chat with other Harvin fans in the in-game discussion threads.

Percy Keeps Touchdown Streak Alive in Vandy Win

Posted by Harvin Zone | Posted in Game Time, Gator News | Posted on 10-11-2008

Percy Harvin didn’t rack up big numbers like we were expecting, but he did score a touchdown to keep his streak alive. Percy has now scored a touchdown in every game he’s played in this season (remember, he missed the opener vs Hawaii). Tebow tried to get him the ball in the air several times in the endzone, but they just couldn’t connect.

Percy ended the game with 9 rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown, plus 3 receptions for 32 yards.

One play that caused some controversy was a Percy Harvin “fumble” on the goal line. The cameras clearly showed that the ball crossed the goal line, but the booth review didn’t overturn the call on the field of a fumble and the ball was given to Vandy. It was so blatantly obvious that the ball was across the goal line and Percy have complete control of it. O-well, at least it wasn’t a game changing play.

With the win, the Gators clinched the SEC East, and with a PSU loss, they’ll probably move up to No. 3 in the BCS.

Percy Harvin Loves Vandy

Tomorrow, Percy Harvin and the Florida Gators will take the field in Vanderbilt Stadium and try to beat the living crap out of the Commodores. If you remember last year, Percy Harvin rushed for a game-high 113 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and caught nine passes for a game-high 110 yards. He just loves ripping up their defense.

But this Vandy team isn’t the same as last year. Remember Vandy was like 4-0 or 5-0 and ranked. They’ll be playing the role of upset and looking to stop the Gator train. Keying in on Percy Harvin will be their number 1 goal. The Gators can’t let it happen. They need to open up the lanes and expose Vandy for what they are.

I’m predicting a great game from Percy Harvin yet again. He’ll keep his touchdown streak going and add 130 yards of total offense.

Don’t forget, if you can’t make it to the game or need someone to chat to while watching it on TV, head over to Gator Envy.
